A Dorset library is now stocking a collection of Greek books following a generous donation of ten literature and dictionary pieces from a member of the local Greek-Cypriot Society.
The books were given to the Bournemouth library by Mrs Theokliti. She said: “I searched various local libraries and found out that none of them had any Greek books. This is one of the reasons I decided to donate some”. The Bournemouth Library accepted this generous offer and provided exclusive space for all the books.
Through this donation Mrs Theokliti aims at getting local residents acquainted with Greek writers and the culture behind their novels. She said: “Ancient writers are well known. Now locals will have a chance to meet contemporary ones too”. She also donated a Greek-English dictionary hoping to help those who want to learn the respective languages.
It took the library fifteen days, after the donation was made, to find an official translator who would inspect the books and their content. All ten pieces are to be checked and censored accordingly. Only the dictionary is on the shelves at the moment as the process is not over yet.
Mrs Theokliti believes that these books will be widely accepted by the British because as she says: “they love our culture”. She urges other members of the local Greek-Cypriot Community to contribute and support her cause by donating additional books.
